Last week I found myself having a two-minute conversation with Dolores Huerta. Yes, the woman who, along with Cesar Chavez, helped organize farm workers and founded United Farm Workers took two minutes of her iconic life to briefly talk to me.

It was at a recent mixer hosted by Hispanics In Philanthropy, an organization that focuses on giving back to the Latino community via fundraising and other resources. We discussed radio host Michael Savage's recent comments about undocumented students and she let me know exactly how she felt.

As I made my way through professional Latinos who were eager to introduce themselves, I was surprised to find out how little they knew about undocumented students and the struggles they have to endure. Although this isn't strictly a Latino issue, this community is greatly affected by it.

But as I heard Huerta's words of wisdom and had the pleasure to educate these already educated men and women, I was happy to see how they took every word I said to heart.

As I introduced myself to Oscar Garza, editor in chief for the glossy Tu Ciudad magazine, I wanted to assure Garza that as a journalist, my main goal was to educate my community and to absorb every single bit of information that may come my way.

I think I might have done so that night.
