Mural tour in North Long Beach

This July may have noticed many walls of the city turning into works of art. Now an opportunity has come to learn more about some of these murals and the people involved in their creation.

Ninth district councilman, Vice Mayor Rex Richardson is hosting a tour of seven newly completed murals at various locations around District 9 in North Long Beach at 10 a.m. on July 30.

Many downtown walls have been painted in the last few weeks as a result of the Long Beach Pow Wow. Alongside this effort, the Office of Vice Mayor Richardson has been working on the Creative Corridor Challenge as an initiative to beautify North Long Beach corridors with murals.

The Creative Corridor Challenge artists were recommended to Vice Mayor Richardson by the Arts Council for Long Beach and Squeeze Art Collective — a Long Beach organization that serves to create and promote local art — and together they completed the project.

Guests will ride a Long Beach Transit bus that will make stops at each of the seven murals, with pick up locations at Houghton Park at 6301 Myrtle Ave., 555 E. Artesia Blvd., 6900 Long Beach Blvd. and Artesia Blvd. and Atlantic. Ave.

The event is completely free, not even bus fare will be needed for this round trip experience through North Long Beach.

Anyone with an interest in art or their city can get this tour as long as they get to their designated bus stop by 10 a.m., sharp.
