Life doesn’t have to be complicated: Modern tools for getting organized

Life can be a mess for us students! Can I get an amen? So here are some organizational solutions that even the computer illiterate can use to keep on top of tasks during the spring semester.

Hassle Me is an organizing site that “hassles and nags you via email to get stuff done.” All you have to do is set an appointment to complete the task.  While busying yourself with actually doing the task, an  email will come and remind you to complete a task until it’s completed. Voila!

Amongst juggling school and work, students find difficulty in making time for loved ones. This can cause a strain on relationships, resulting in stress. Spending time with loved and liked ones is a healthy method in releasing stress and staying on task without becoming overwhelmed. At 30 Boxes, students can organize a calendar listing birthdays, notes and exams, among other events. Being able to share your monthly plans, goals and schedule with others from bosses to boyfriends has never been easier.

For those who don’t want to strain their eyes, purchase tangible planners in the library to list assignments, due dates or whatever needs remembering. Depending on your personal choice, the planners vary in size, color and dimension. I personally have two. I carry a small one in my purse, for small reminders. However, I carry a larger one I bought at Target, where I list my full day plans.

Sticky notes with little reminders can keep you on top of your academic goals. Put it on your bathroom mirror or your computer desktop. Throwing away the post after completion reassures you that your goal has been met. Most computers now carry a post-it tool application, which allows you to keep notes on your desktop. There are many useful sources in organizing your agenda, even with a simple, neon post-it.

I urge students to jump on the organizational train to get to the final destination of graduation, not derailment. Take a day out to read through your syllabus, and list any upcoming assignments, exams and presentations in your calendars. You can also purchase sticky pads to write reminders here and there. If a planner seems too demanding for you, allow your phone to become your personal assistant. By making small, but important choice to get organized, you can promise yourself a successful and stress-free lifestyle.

So what are you waiting for? Start organizing your life today!
