In a defensive battle with No. 4 Brigham Young University, the Long Beach State women’s soccer team gave up a late goal in the 85th minute to the Cougars to lose 1-0 Saturday in Provo, Utah. Following a strong win at UC Davis on Thursday, Long Beach State was able to grind out a 5-set win over UC Irvine on Saturday to improve its conference record to 2-0. Long Beach State freshman Holland Shourds led the 49ers at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational with a 22nd place finish Tuesday at the Almaden Golf and Country Club in San Jose.
