With two acoustic guitars and only half of the band, Fullerton rockers, Far From Fate, lit up the stage with unplugged versions of their songs for their last show of the year at the Blue Café on Saturday.
The entire set had a very mellow and soothing vibe to it with Bobby Huitt's light guitar acoustics and Steevun Houston's vocals. Houston and Huitt were the only two members of the band who were able to make it to their last show, due to conflicting circumstances for the other members, Armando Alfaro (bass) and Andy Coles (guitar). The band is currently searching for a new drummer.
Some of the songs played throughout the night included "Insecure," "Pit of Passion" and "Below the Fall." The members were able to change their songs around to just vocals and acoustics for the night, apart from their normal post-hardcore sound with screaming, bass and drums backing their sound.
Their sound is very unique and has its own style to it.
"‘Pop-core' is what I like to call it," Huitt said. "I don't know if that is a genre or I just made it up. There's post hardcore, there's metal, there's pop, there's pop-punk, so it's like, yeah, we're sort of like A Day to Remember in that we have heavy breakdowns and [Houston] screams sometimes."
Their "pop-core" style is what makes their band have such a loyal fanbase all around Southern California.
For their last show of the year, the turnout of their fans was promising. Even though the band almost did not make it to the show, Far From Fate still came through.
"Basically we came out [because] we're doing it for the fans," Huitt said. "We didn't want to cancel the show. We thought it would be in bad taste, a day or two days before to cancel the show."
"We're very schedule-oriented," Houston added. "When you have absolutely nothing to do because you made plans for the show already, why not follow through?"
As a band of three years, Far From Fate has come a long way and continues to make progress.
"[After] our last show of the year, then we go into recording for December," Houston said. "We want to hit the new year with our tour dates, we're going to try to tour California and maybe even a little bit out to Arizona."
