Queen Mary decks its hulls for holidays

The Queen Mary’s holiday festivities get underway Dec. 9 with its annual Christmas tree lighting. The event marks the start of the holiday season, complete with snow, aboard the ship.

Attendees are invited to count down with Long Beach mayor Bob Foster and ship general manager Uwe Roggenthien as they light the holiday tree at 7 p.m.

“The tree lighting event is our way to invite the community to celebrate the holiday season with The Queen Mary. This is the kick-off event for the season and we look forward to welcoming everyone aboard,” said Paul Haugh, director of events and attractions.

The Long Beach International Children’s Choir and a steel drum band will treat guests to Christmas carols throughout the night. Guests are asked to bring unwrapped toys to donate to the Long Beach Fire Department’s “Spark of Love” donation program.

For the first time, an ice-skating rink located on the ship’s Verandah Deck. Ice-skating will cost $10 including skate rental.

The Queen Mary will host its holiday events through Dec. 30. The event and parking are free.
