The “Unravel Your Mind” event will have performing DJs, as well as art for sale at the Gaslamp.

Student entrepreneurs from Cal State Long Beach are set to host the first annual live art, music and art auction event, dubbed "Unravel Your Mind," offering an insight to the world of underground art and electronic music.

The event is expected to be an evening of eclectic entertainment with roughly 10 DJs spinning styles of electro-funk, hard electro and dub-step. DJ Stax, Gummy and Darwin will perform DJ sets.

There will be live band performances from The Truck Dancers, The BMMB, and the Dead Acrobats. There will also be art performances from CSULB art students and professionals like Colorado-based artist Brian Henry. Food from the Gaslamp and an 18-inch sub-woofer sound system could possibly over-stimulate the senses. Getto Math and Arkind will also showcase visual performances.

In his senior year, 25-year-old Yahn Katz, a finance and psychology major at CSULB has organized the event and is hoping to raise money to benefit the Los Alamitos High School art program. Katz, along with Andrew Ducker and Josh Berg, was inspired to host this event primarily to promote art in Long Beach and give back to their high school.

They hope to build a company which will provide underground art enthusiasts with information that could once only be acquired through close networking and host events as big as Coachella and Burning Man.

"We believe that Long Beach has a lot of potential," Katz said. "So what we are doing is providing a visually stimulating, musically vibrant and healing opportunity for people to plug into."

Katz feels an underground art show and exhibit is exactly what Long Beach needs. He said Long Beach has the potential to make a name for itself in the underground art world because it is located between mega-metropolitan areas like Los Angeles and Orange County.

"Unravel Your Mind" will begin at 7 p.m. and last until 2 a.m. at the Gaslamp on 6251 E. Pacific Coast Highway. Entrance is free and proceeds from art sales will be given to charity.
