The Daily 49er has long been a pioneer in digital distribution. We were one of the first college newspapers in the country to establish a Web edition, beginning in 1994. Now, in cooperation with the Office of Academic Technology and journalism department at Cal State Long Beach, we're proud to offer our complete newspaper through iTunes U. We believe to be the first newspaper ever to do this. Subscribe and get the latest issue of the Daily 49er automatically. Read on for instructions.
If you don't already have iTunes installed on your computer, you will need to download and install it. You must also have Adobe Reader (or another application that can read PDF files) installed.
You can go straight to our page on iTunes U by clicking here. You can choose from two editions we offer each day. The "full layout" is identical to our print edition. The "plaintext PDF" contains all of our stories in a plaintext format suitable for use with screen-readers and other assistive technologies. The small file size of this edition also makes it great for users on dial-up connections.
Once you've decided which edition is for you, click the "Get" button to begin downloading the file:

You can "subscribe" to the newspaper and iTunes will download the newest issue as soon as it is posted online.

Downloaded issues will appear in the left sidebar. If you're using version 8 of iTunes, look for a playlist titled "Newspaper" in a folder called "CSU Long Beach".
iTunes version 9 has a separate section for iTunes U:

Finally, double-click on the issue to open it!

We hope you enjoy this service. Please send any feedback or concerns to the Online Editor.
