Skipworth named CSULB police chief

Stan Skipworth has been chosen to be the new chief of police for Cal State Long Beach’s University Police, a campuswide e-mail announced Tuesday afternoon. Skipworth has been with University Police for eight years, serving as a lieutenant, captain and the interim chief.

Prior to serving more than 17 years for police forces on college campuses, Skipworth was also in municipal police forces for eight years.

Skipworth was named the interim chief of police after replacing former Chief of Police Jack Pearson, who retired at the end of 2007. In the mass e-mail, written by Mary Stephens, vice president of administration and finance, she wrote that Skipworth “has been a valued member of the department” and that the university has “every confidence that Stan will continue to build on its respected reputation.”
