Homecoming to close with 5k Run/Walk

Homecoming will end in sweat this year as Cal State Long Beach hosts The Pyramid 5K Run/Walk through campus this Sunday.

Race director and CSULB alumnus, Wayne Stickney, said the goal of the race is to encourage people to become part of the beach community.

Proceeds will be donated to the Long Beach State and Field Team and to the CSULB Student Success Fund.

The race/walk is open to anyone who Stickney said, “want to be part of a movement”.

So far 50 students, faculty, alumni and Long Beach residents have signed up to participate.

A five year plan is set for The Pyramid 5k, as Stickney said he hopes the number of participants will rise to about 2,000 people eventually.

For animal lovers, dogs are allowed to be in the race with their owner as long as they’re on a leash. “We are dog friendly”, Stickney said.

Cash prizes of $100 to $250 will be given to 1st and 2nd place teams and individual participants.

The fundraiser starts at 9 a.m. next to the Jack Rose Track on campus. It costs $30 to pre-register for the race and $35 on race day.
