Man carrying marijuana threatens to kill with scissors

University Police responded to a report of a man threatening another man with a pair of scissors on Sept. 10 at 2:51 p.m. at the University Library, Lt. Richard Goodwin said.

Goodwin said the male victim reported that he was approached by the suspect who “pulled out marijuana, asked if he had something to smoke it in, then threatened to kill him and stick him with scissors.”

The suspect was gone by the time police arrived, Goodwin said. The incident was isolated in which there were no other reported crimes committed by the suspect on campus at the time, he said.

Goodwin said that witness statements described the suspect as a 5 feet 7 inches white male weighing 160 pounds who had a sunburned face and dark brown hair. He was wearing a white shirt, grey jeans, brown boots and carried a brown leather bag, Goodwin said.

University Police believe that the suspect is not a student, but a “frequenter of the campus,” Goodwin said.

He said they are still searching for this suspect. If anyone has any information that was not reported to police that day, contact Detective Johnny Leyva at 562-985-4101.

$130 skateboard stolen

A skateboard was reported stolen after it was left next to the fountain near the tennis courts on Sept. 11, Goodwin said. The skateboard was valued at $130, Goodwin said.

Between 6:30 and 7 p.m. the victim realized the victim had forgotten the skateboard, and upon returning, it was gone, Goodwin said.

He said that the Cal State Long Beach Lost and Found received a skateboard the following morning. However, without a description of the skateboard, it is impossible to match. If anyone loses property, Goodwin said to check the lost and found, Goodwin said.

Bicycle stolen near Hillside College

A $240 bicycle that had been locked and secured at the bike racks outside the Hillside College building F was stolen on Sept. 9 at 10:30 a.m., Goodwin said.

The bike is lime-colored, with a female frame, hand brakes and standard tires, Goodwin said.

The bike was secured with a cable lock, he said. University Police recommends using U-locks to protect bicycles from being stolen.
