Motorcyclist taken to hospital after accident on campus

A man driving a motorcycle was taken to the hospital after colliding with a sedan in front of parking lot 6 and the Multimedia Center on West Campus Drive Thursday morning.

Lieutenant Richard Goodwin of Campus Police said that at approximately 10:30 a.m. a blue and white Kawasaki ZX-10R motorcycle was headed north bound into campus from 7th street, when it struck the front-left headlight and side panel of a green Acura TSX sedan.

Witness theatre grad student Amberly Chamberlain said that the cyclist flew over the sedan and onto the pavement upon impact.

“He flew,” said Chamberlain about the cyclist. “Ya he flipped over it [the Acura].”

Chamberlain said she was sitting in a line of traffic heading north on West Campus Dr. when she stopped to let the green Acura out of the parking lot six.

“I paused to let the [Acura] come out because we were all just sitting here waiting anyways,” Chamberlain said. “As I stopped, and this guy [Acura] started to come out, I heard a motorcyclist zoom up the left side of all of us [cars stopped in traffic].”

Chamberlain said the cyclist was shaky and lost his shoe, but appeared to be all right and immediately picked up his phone.

Goodwin said that the cyclist was conscious and coherent when the first responders arrived, but was transported to the hospital in an ambulance.

The driver of the green Acura, Professor in the Communication Studies department Anthony Cuomo said he was fine, but he did not wish to make a comment at this time.
