  • Yes on Prop. 40

In the tough economic times of today, we at the Daily 49er are all for saving money, which is why we endorse Proposition 40. Prop. 40 would keep the State Senate district boundaries the same, and re-drawing these district lines would likely result in higher costs to taxpayers, according to the proposition’s text.

  • Yes on Prop. 39

The Daily 49er editorial board unanimously voted “yes” for the proposed tax measure for multistate businesses, Proposition 39. By regulating taxes on large corporations, Californians can make certain that everybody is paying their fair share of state funds.

  • Yes on Prop. 35

Human trafficking is growing at an alarming rate, and the punishments currently in place do not effectively deter the crime. That is why we at the Daily 49er endorse Proposition 35’s passage. Prop. 35 would substantially increase prison terms by up to 15 years to life and fines of up to $1.

  • Yes on Prop. 34

Proposition 34 sticks it to flawed capital punishment. This measure would repeal the death penalty and replace it with sentencing to life without parole, which has already been done in 17 states and the District of Columbia. Since the current death penalty law was enacted four decades ago, 900 individuals have been sentenced to death, according to the Secretary of State’s Voter Information Guide.

  • Yes on Prop. 33

Under Proposition 33, drivers who have earned a discount for holding continuous car insurance coverage for up to five years would be allowed to transfer to a new insurance provider and keep the coverage discount they earned with their previous provider.

  • No on Prop. 32

In politics, money talks. Proposition 32 seems like it would help reduce the power of the dollar in politics — but it doesn’t. And we at the Daily 49er say you should vote “no” on this misleading proposition this November. Prop. 32 would ban corporations and unions from using payroll deductions as a way to raise money for political spending.

  • No on Prop. 31

Proposition 31 is designed to establish two-year state budgets and set rules for offsetting expenditures amounting to more than $25 million. While the proposition aims to keep government accountable for its spending, we at the Daily 49er think it’s a half-baked idea.
