Tournament win propels golfer to conference honor

Coming off the heels of a win in the Heather Farr Memorial Invitational, women’s golfer Kay Hoey was named the Big West Conference Golfer of the Month on Thursday.

The honor is the ninth of the Long Beach State senior All-American’s career, as Hoey won the award three times as a junior and sophomore and twice as a freshman.

Hoey won the Invitational by carding a 207 three-round total Tuesday, including a tournament-low 65 in the opening round to tie her personal-best score.

“It’s a really good feeling to be honored,” Hoey said in a press release. “It doesn’t even feel like that I took a year off. I’m happy to be back with the team and having lots of fun at the same time. I feel pumped up for our team and our next tournament.”

The 49ers return to the links for the three-day Edean Ihanfeldt Invitational in Sammamish, Wash., on Monday.
