Junior guard named co-Big West women’s basketball Player of the Week

Junior Courtney Jacob’s career-high 30-point performance may not have resulted in a win for Long Beach State, but the Big West Conference took notice Monday.

Jacob was named the co-Big West women’s basketball Player of the Week along with Cal Poly’s Megan Harrison. It’s the first honor in Jacob’s career and the first 49er to earn the honor since the 2005-06 season.

Jacob torched Loyola Marymount for a career-high 30 points on 10-of-18 shooting, including 6-of-12 from 3-point range, but the 49ers lost 83-63 in Los Angeles on Nov. 24. She became the first 49er to reach the 30-point mark since Glory Johnson accomplished the feat in 2003.

The Naples, Fla. native flirted with a triple-double, adding nine rebounds and a career-high six assists.

Jacob leads the 49ers with 19.7 points and 1.7 blocks per game, while ranking second on the team in rebounding (8.3 RPG) through the team’s first three games.

The 49ers will kick off a four-game road trip at Washington State on Friday at 7 p.m.
