Women’s hoops gets back on winning track

The 49er women’s basketball team snapped its three-game losing streak with a nail-biting 55-54 win over Idaho, Sunday afternoon at Cowan Spectrum in Moscow, Idaho.

The game saw seven ties and nine lead changes. The ‘Niners were up, 55-54, with 16 seconds remaining in regulation when the Vandals had possession.

Idaho’s Rachele Kloke put up a second-chance basket that came after the buzzer had sounded, allowing LBSU to escape with the win.

Junior Brett Timmons recorded a near double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds to spur LBSU to its second win of the season.

Freshman Adelle Walton led the ‘Niners in scoring with a season-high 11 points. Lauren Sims poured in 10 points on 2-of-4 shooting from beyond the 3-point line.

Yinka Olorunnife, who had 20 points and 16 rebounds, led the Vandals.

Timmons knocked down a jumper to give LBSU a 55-52 lead with 1:15 remaining. Olorunnife responded with a layup to make it a one-point game.

Idaho got the ball back on the game’s final possession, but was unable to put it in the hoop before time expired.

The ‘Niners out-rebounded the Vandals, 52-43, on the glass. LBSU also committed 28 turnovers to Idaho’s 13.
