49ers finish 8th in tournament

Long Beach State shot 306 in the final round of the Braveheart Classic to finish in eighth place on Tuesday.

Oregon won the team title by seven strokes over Southern Utah as the Ducks carded an 11-over-par 875 total. The 49ers ended the two-day event at 32-over 896 at the Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont.

LBSU was tied for third with Southern Utah through the first two rounds Monday.

Individually, junior Michael Drake tied for 16th-place to pace the ‘Niners and ended the final round with a 3-over 75 score. He shot 221 for the tournament.

Southern Utah’s Nate Page won the event with a 1-under 215 total. Five other players tied for second place.

Freshman Kevin Lim (8-over 224) finished tied for 28th, junior Steve Gibson (13-over 229) tied for 50th, freshman Kevin Roy (14-over 230) was a stroke behind and sophomore Ricky Montanez ended tied for 86th.

The 49ers return to action March 12 and 13 for the Triumph at Pauma Valley, which is hosted by San Francisco.
