Women’s Volleyball: Four sign to play with The Beach

The Long Beach State women’s volleyball team announced the signing of four players as part of its 2010 recruiting class on Monday.

Delainey Aigner-Swesey, Haleigh Hampton, Alma Serna and Ashley Vazquez will join the 49er roster next season.

Aigner-Swesey, a 6-foot-1 outside hitter, is currently attending Serrano High School, Beach sophomore Caitlin Ledoux’s alma mater.

Hampton, a 6-foot-7 middle blocker, and Serna, a 6-foot-3 outside hitter/middle blocker, are rated as Top 100 recruits by PrepVolleyball.com.

Vazquez is a 6-foot-1 setter who has played on the Puerto Rico junior national team.


Ledoux bags conference honor

Sophomore Caitlin Ledoux earned her first career Big West Conference Player of the Week recognition, the conference announced on Monday.

Ledoux collected a career-high 33 kills in a 3-1 win over UC Riverside last Friday, and followed up that effort with 21 kills and 19 digs in a losing effort against Cal State Northridge on Saturday. She averaged 6.00 kills per set and 3.11 digs per set for the weekend.

Men’s Basketball: LBSU travels to Pepperdine

The 49er men’s basketball team will see its first road action of the season when it faces Pepperdine at 7 p.m. tonight at Firestone Fieldhouse in Malibu.

The Beach (1-0) will be led by sophomore guard Larry Anderson, who scored 18 points and distributed seven assists in an 86-65 season-opening win over Alaska-Anchorage.

Pepperdine guard Keion Bell will headline the Waves roster.
