Track and Field: Record-setting mark earns Hicks weekly honor
Junior Randi Hicks was named the Big West Conference Women’s Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.
Hicks had a record-setting performance in the javelin at the Ben Brown Invitational last Saturday, establishing a conference and school record as she won the event with her effort of 170-10.
The Cal Poly Pomona transfer, who bettered her previous lifetime best by over 18 feet, topped the conference record of 169-04, which was held by Long Beach State alum Kim Heinz. Her performance was also one of the 49ers’ 31 Big West qualifying marks on the day.
The 49ers return to the track when it sends a contingent of athletes to the Aztec Invitational in San Diego, March 12-13.
