Hicks, Shaw close out season in Eugene

Randi Hicks failed to cap off her record-setting season with a win on Saturday as the junior placed 12th in the women’s javelin at the NCAA track and field championships in Eugene, Ore.

Hicks had a distance of 157-08 feet to finish sixth in Flight 1. Meanwhile, teammate Alex Shaw finished in 17th place overall with a distance of 151-11 in Flight 1. Shaw finishes her career at Long Beach State ranked third in the school’s history with a distance of 167-05.

Earlier this season Hicks set a new Big West Conference and school record with a distance of 170-11 at the Ben Brown Invitational.

Kenneth Medwood was the only other LBSU track and field athlete to compete at the event. The senior finished in 17th place overall and was not able to advance to the final with a time of 51.65 seconds in 400-meter hurdles on Wednesday.
