Men’s golf in last after Day 1

The Long Beach State men’s golf team opened its second tournament of the season Sunday with a disappointing last-place showing in the first of three rounds at The Prestige at PGA West.

The 49ers shot 26-over-par 314 at the TPC Stadium Course in La Quinta, Calif. No. 22 California leads the 15-team field at 2-under 286. The competition features eight teams ranked in the nation’s top 50.

Sophomore Kevin Lim led all 49ers at 2-over 74 to tie for 24th on the individual leaderboard. Stanford’s Cameron Wilson (5-under 67) has a one-shot lead over Arizona State’s Thomas Buran for first place.

Benjamin Lein (t-57th), Raymond Ho (t-64th), Philip Chian (76th) and Zach Kanny (t-78th), who made his LBSU debut, rounded out the 49ers squad.

The second round will start at 12:30 p.m. on Monday.
