“Raymond looked solid today, LBSU head coach Ryan Ressa said in a release. “He’s a great competitor and had that confidence we need out of the guys. I am excited to see how he progresses this week and throughout the spring.”

Fellow classmate Benjamin Lein finished one shot behind with a 72 to tie for 37th. Austin Love and Kevin Lim tied for 51st at 4-over, while Kevin Roy tied for 57th (+5).

Philip Chian tied for 68th at 7-over to round out the team’s scores.

Kenneth McCready of San Diego sits on top of the leaderboard at 5-under 65, holding a one-stroke lead over Ty Chambers of Washington.

“It was nice to get the spring season under way here at a local venue,” Ressa said. “Pelican Hill is a fantastic setting for an event and the guys got off to a solid start today in round one. Although our scores may not reflect it, the guys battled well today and kept their composure for the entire day. We have come out of the break fresh and focused on our goals. I was very pleased with the golf I saw today and the way we played.

This schedule we have had this year will give our guys experience against the best players in the country and be vital to their growth as players. “

Second round action continues on Monday at 7 a.m. The 49ers are scheduled to tee off at 7:30 a.m. and will be paired with UT Arlington.
