Freshman paces LBSU track in Day 1 of Stanford Invitational

Freshman Heath Reedy highlighted the first day of the Stanford Invitational for the Long Beach State track and field team as he won his section of the men’s 5000-meter run Friday in Palo Alto, Calif.

Reedy crossed the finish line in 14 minutes, 16.62 seconds to finish ahead of the pack in Section 4. His mark is ranked fifth best in school history.

On the women’s side, Rosa Del Toro was LBSU’s top finisher, clocking in at 16:55.43 to place ninth in Section 4. She now ranks fifth on The Beach’s all-time charts.

Jennifer Rodriguez also came in 24th (17:18.89), while Nina Moore placed in 30th (17:31.49).

Jessica Barnard also competed in the 1500-meter run, finishing with a lifetime-best 4:42.83.

LBSU closes out action at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday, while the rest of the squad will begin action at the Cal-Nevada Championships in Claremont.
