Thanksgiving weekend stuffed with LBSU games

The 49ers will get a chance to enjoy Thanksgiving on Thursday, but they will return to action not long after. Here’s a look at each sport’s games this weekend.

Men’s basketball at Washington

Long Beach State (1-6) will look to end its six-game losing streak in Seattle on Saturday afternoon, when they face the Huskies at Alaska Airlines Arena.

Washington (2-3) has had an uncharacteristic start to the season, as it has lost games to UC Irvine and Boston College. It received votes in the Associated Press preseason poll but has since become irrelevant in the national rankings.

The 49ers will be tasked with slowing down senior point guard C.J. Wilcox, who has averaged 23 points per game early in the season.

Women’s basketball vs. Pepperdine and Nebraska-Omaha
The women’s basketball team has overcome a rough first two games to win their last couple and get back to .500 at 2-2.

The 49ers will look to defend their home court yet again this weekend when they face Pepperdine (2-3) and Nebraska-Omaha (3-2).

Pepperdine gave UCLA a fight in the first week of the season, but the Waves have since lost to South Dakota State and Wyoming.

Nebraska-Omaha’s visit to the Pyramid will provide a homecoming for center Tajhe Kelly, who is an alumna of Long Beach Poly High School.

Women’s volleyball vs. UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly

LBSU’s season will come to an end this weekend with its final home games.

The 49ers (16-11, 9-5 Big West) are locked into fourth place in the Big West standings regardless of the outcome of the weekend’s games. A fourth-place finish will be the worst for LBSU since 1995.

UCSB has a chance to win the Big West with a pair of wins this weekend.

Men’s water polo vs. Stanford at the MPSF tournament

The men’s water polo season will also come to an end this weekend. The 49ers (19-12, 1-7 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) earned the seventh seed in the conference tournament and will face second-seeded Stanford in the opening round. They will look to improve upon last year’s fifth-place finish at the tournament.
