Hudson brings home All-Region honor for LBSU

It may be the end of the collegiate career for Long Beach State women’s volleyball star Jenelle Hudson, but the setter was named as part of the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Region first team on Tuesday morning.

The senior ended her collegiate career as the 24th player in 49er history to be named to the All-Region first team. LBSU has now had a player be part of the All-Region first team for the last 11 of 12 seasons, with Chisom Okpala taking home the honor last season.

Last season, Hudson earned an honorable mention selection for the All-Region team and was named Big West Player of the Year.

Hudson led the Big West in assists, averaging 10.74 for a .400 percentage, and she led her team to a .258 hitting percentage on the season. She was one of only two players this season to play in every set, the other player being junior outside hitter Nele Barber.

As the leader on the team, Hudson ended her year with 10 double-doubles, with her best performance coming in a five-set win over Cal Poly on Oct. 24, recording 51 assists and 26 digs.

Hudson finished out her final season with a .304 hitting percentage; recording 117 kills with only 32 errors. She also led the team with 22 service aces.

Out of the nine schools in the conference, only three players from the Big West earned the AVCA All-Region accolade. Senior middle blocker Olivia Magill and junior opposite hitter Nikki Taylor took home first team honor for the University of Hawaii as part of the Pacific North Region.

Hudson was the only Big West player to receive the honor for the Pacific South region.
