Three Long Beach State Dirtbags are featured in a graphic

The Long Beach State baseball team is responsible for producing some of the university’s most famous alumni. The Dirtbags, as they are more commonly referred, earned their nickname from former infield coach Dave Malpass in 1989. The team continues to embrace the seemingly unkind moniker as it has come to reflect the program’s gritty style of play. LBSU has been to the College World Series four times in its history and boast an impressive list of former players that includes Evan Longoria, Troy Tulowitzki, Jason Giambi and Jered Weaver.
