'Niners win at Pacific, drop five-setter against Stanford

The Long Beach State men's volleyball team (4-4, 3-2 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) split a pair of road matches over the weekend with a win at Pacific and a loss at Stanford.

The 49ers defeated Pacific, 30-21, 30-28, 27-30, 30-28, Saturday night.

Sophomore outside hitter Josh Riley led LBSU with 17 kills on .433 hitting. Sophomore outside hitter Kyle Friend recorded a double-double with 16 kills on .393 hitting to go with 10 digs.

Pacific was held to .245 hitting in the match.

The 49ers were unable to hold off a late Stanford surge last Friday night, dropping the match, 26-30, 24-30, 33-31, 31-29, 15-8.

Junior opposite Dean Bittner took match-high honors with 28 kills.

The Cardinal hit .307 for the match, including .667 in the deciding set.
