The Long Beach State women's tennis team (10-3) was too much for Columbia to handle in a 7-0 sweep Sunday at the Rhodes Tennis Center.
"Coming off of a big win yesterday, sometimes teams have a let down," head coach Jenny Hilt-Costello said. "I was glad we came out and took all the matches."
Senior Deborah Armstrong claimed sole possession of the 49ers' all-time combined wins record with her 174th victory. Armstrong took a tough, three-set match against Natasha Makarova at the No. 3 spot, 4-6, 6-3, 10-5.
She tied assistant coach Hannah Grady's record Saturday.
"I think [Grady] deserves more credit", Armstrong said, showing humility. "Hannah played a couple spots higher than me for her four years."
Junior Anais Dallara, The Beach's No. 1 singles player, maintained her dominance by defeating Nicole Bartnik, 6-2, 7-5.
In her second match back, No. 2 singles player sophomore Klaudia Malenovska edged out Bianca Sanon in a gruesome, three-set match, 6-3, 1-6, 12-10.
Sophomore Sarah Cantlay won her match at the No. 5 slot against Chelsea Davis in a decisive manner, outscoring her, 6-2, 6-1.
Anna Jeczmionka returned to the lineup at the No. 6 slot. The sophomore racked up a victory against Katarina Kovasevic, 6-2, 7-5.
LBSU junior Rachel Manasse rounded out the sweep with a two-set victory over Tiana Takenaga at the No. 4 spot, 6-2, 6-3.
The Beach secured the doubles point by taking all three of the doubles matches.
LBSU's No. 1 tandem, Dallara and Malenovska, beat out Bartnik and Kovasevic, 8-2. Cantlay and Julie Luzar sealed the point with a 8-5 win over Davis and Makarova.
The No. 2 duo of Armstrong and Manasse finished off the sweep, outdoing Sanon and Makarova, 8-6.
The 49ers' next match comes against Louisville on Thursday at the Rhodes Tennis Center at 2 p.m.
