Long Beach State senior Kay Hoey captured the individual title at the Heather Farr Memorial Invitational in Colorado Tuesday.
Hoey shot a 1-under-par 71 in the third round to finish at 9-under for the tournament, taking the title by three strokes over Emily Childs (University of Colorado) and Alice Kim (UC Davis). Freshman Lee Lopez also placed in the Top-10, finishing seventh with a 3-under 213 for the tournament.
Hoey placed herself in good position coming into the final round after firing a 7-under 65 first round, the lowest single-round score of the entire tournament. Hoey remained consistent through the Invitational, recording only three bogeys.
As a team, the No. 24-ranked 49ers secured a fifth-place finish, shooting a 9-over 873 for the tournament. Notre Dame took the team title with a 6-under tournament score, comfortably finishing five strokes ahead of second place Texas Tech.
