Bakersfield Police Seek Public Help Identifying Two Men in Wilson Road Robbery

Police in Bakersfield are asking residents to help identify two men involved in a robbery that took place on Wilson Road on May 14, 2026. According to a statement released by the Bakersfield Police Department (BPD) on Thursday, the incident occurred at about 12:09 p.m. in the 3700 block of Wilson Road, near South Real Road. The suspects allegedly broke into a business, demanded money from the clerk, and fled the scene. BPD has identified the men as a man in his 30s described as heavy‑set, wearing a black mask, black hooded sweater, blue gloves, light‑colored pants and black shoes, who the department has nicknamed “Peanuts.” The second suspect, also in his 30s and weighing 230 pounds, was seen wearing a white shirt over a black hooded sweater, black pants and black shoes, and has been given the alias “Wasco.” The department is asking anyone with information to contact the non‑emergency line at 661‑327‑7111 or Detective Orozco at 661‑852‑7007.

The robbery, which is classified as a felony under California Penal Code, is part of a broader pattern of property crime that BPD has been working to reduce across Kern County. Bakersfield, the county seat of Kern County, has a population of more than 400,000 residents and covers roughly 151 square miles. The city’s economy is anchored by agriculture, energy production, and manufacturing, and the BPD serves a diverse urban and suburban population. The department, led by Chief Greg Terry since 2020, employs over 590 officers and operates from its headquarters at 1601 Truxtun Avenue, with a west‑side substation at 1301 Buena Vista Road.

BPD’s request for community assistance follows a series of recent incidents that have drawn public attention to the need for swift identification of suspects. Earlier this month, the department responded to a traffic collision on Wilson Road involving a black Mercedes SUV and a white Jeep, and earlier in the year it handled a case involving a man shot in his vehicle near Wible Road. In each instance, the department emphasized the importance of public cooperation in gathering evidence and locating individuals who may have fled the scene.

The aliases “Peanuts” and “Wasco” are not official names but are used by investigators to refer to the suspects in internal communications. According to the department’s statement, the men were seen carrying a bag that appeared to contain cash. The business that was robbed was a small retail shop located on Wilson Road, though the statement does not disclose the name of the establishment. No injuries were reported, and the clerk was unharmed.

BPD has issued a formal request for tips in the form of a press release that was distributed to local media outlets and posted on the department’s website. The department has also asked residents to review any surveillance footage from the area, including nearby businesses and traffic cameras, that might capture the suspects’ movements. If anyone has information that could help identify the men or locate them, the department urges them to call the non‑emergency line or contact Detective Orozco directly.

The investigation is ongoing, and BPD has not yet announced any arrests. The department is continuing to review evidence and interview witnesses. As the city’s law enforcement agency works to bring the suspects to justice, the community’s cooperation remains a critical component of the effort to maintain public safety in Bakersfield.
