CSU student applications increase by 21 percent

During the first 12 days of the Cal State University system’s open application period, the number of student applications increased by 21 percent from last year’s numbers, according to an Oct. 13 press release from the CSU system.

The numbers of freshman student applications increased by 14 percent, graduate applications rose by 37 percent and transfer student applications went up 39 percent.

About 33,300 first-time freshman applications had been received by Oct. 13.  The CSU system received 400,000 total freshman applications last year.

The closing dates for applications change across the CSUs, with Cal State Long Beach’s closing date on Nov. 30 for incoming freshman and transfer students applying for the fall 2009 semester. Graduate application deadlines vary by program.

According to an article in the Daily Forty-Niner, CSULB closed the door for spring 2009 in September to avoid overextending the budget.
