Blotter: Woman uses fake money unknowingly

A woman used a counterfeit $50 bill to pay for live scan services at the University Police Department on Tuesday at 1:41 p.m., University Police Captain Scott Brown said. Officers believed the use of the counterfeit bill was unintentional, Brown said. The woman said she had received it from someone at a yard sale, Brown said.

Threats from abroad

A male student in Parkside College reported to University Police that he was receiving threats via Facebook on Sept. 22 at 11:57 p.m., Brown said. The person making the threats is not a student and does not reside in the United States, Brown said. This is not the first time the student received threats, and police are following up on the case, Brown said.

Violence at the bus stop

University Police responded to a possible domestic violence call about a man who was suspected of pushing a woman at the bus stop outside of Language Arts building 1 on Wednesday at 8:22 p.m., Brown said. Police made contact with the boyfriend and girlfriend involved, according to Brown. Police investigated and found no signs of harm, and no witness was located to support the claims, Brown said. The couple was given advice and domestic violence resource books, Brown said.

Wallet stolen from Fine Arts building

A female faculty member reported theft in Fine Arts building 2, Room 201 on Sept. 24 at 6:52 p.m., Brown said. The theft took place between 1:30 and 6:50 p.m. from an unsecured office, Brown said. A wallet was taken from a purse as well as $30 and a credit card, which was later used off-campus, Brown said. The total loss was valued at $270, Brown said. No suspect information is known at this time, and police are investing the incident as a theft, Brown said.
