Students get sweaty, midterm ready

Behold: a sweaty solace crunched in-between back-to-back midterms. The Student Recreation and Wellness Center provides a healthy channel for inevitably stressed students.

Open until midnight on Monday through Thursday, the SRWC offers a brief escape for students looking to unwind or hide from their busy study schedules.

“I definitely could be studying a little bit more,” Arely Chitica, a junior accounting major said while working out. “I work out more during midterms, though, because it relieves my stress.”

The Beach Balance office at the SRWC offers meditation on Mondays at 6:30 p.m. The meditation hour allows students to collect themselves and relax after a long day, according to the SRWC website.

By appointment, Beach Balance also offers “biofeedback,” which is breathing techniques “designed to lower your heart rate and relieve stress,” Jen Miller, a senior nutrition major and Beach Balance employee, said.

“If you focus too much on one thing, you’ll go crazy,” Miller said. “Finding 30 minutes a day to exercise gives you a designated time to not think and just focus on the work out.”

Some students shared their workout routine and how they manage to squeeze in relaxation between studying.

Sabrina Neal (Sophomore, journalism and political science)

“Midterms can interfere with my workout schedule, I have to rush through everything and I don’t always get to do everything I want. I make time for it though to give myself a break from studying.”

Santi Decunto (junior, psychology)

“I usually study at night or before class. I like to rock climb after all of my classes are done, so I have a clear mind.”

Vivian Tanudjaja (Athletic training major and intramurals desk clerk at SRWC)
