Women’s Volleyball: Five ‘Niners earn Big West accolades

The Long Beach State women’s volleyball team landed three players on the All-Big West first team when the conference announced its honorees on Tuesday.

Naomi Washington and Caitlin Ledoux each nabbed first team recognition for the second time, while Ashley Lee collected her first.

Washington‘s 4.10 kills per set is good for third in the Big West, while Ledoux’s 3.51 puts her at sixth in the category. Lee handed out 10.58 assists per set while guiding the LBSU attack to a conference-leading .249 hitting percentage in Big West matches.

Brittney Herzog added an honorable mention nod to her first team selection from last season, ranking third on the team in total kills and first in hitting percentage at .291.

Redshirt freshman Jocelyn Neely made the Big West All-Freshman team after registering 1.62 kills per set this season.

Washington snags Player of the Week award

Washington collected her second Big West Player of the Week award of the season after leading Long Beach State to its second consecutive Big West Conference championship.

The 49ers (19-7, 12-4 Big West) wrapped up their 23rd consecutive NCAA Tournament bid after defeating UC Riverside and UC Irvine this past weekend.

Washington tallied 26 kills on .421 hitting and a career-high 10 digs to notch her first career double-double in the 49ers’ five-set win over UCI. The victory over the Anteaters delivered the ‘Niners their 10th Big West crown and 24th NCAA appearance.

The Beach resumes play when it hosts the two-day Mizuno Thanksgiving Tournament starting Friday at noon against Texas Christian University.
