After this Sunday, the World Cup winner will be crowned and it’s no surprise that Germany will be fighting for the title. However, it is likely that there are many who did not foresee a horrendous 7-1 game in the semifinals round, especially against the renowned Brazil team playing on home turf.
According to the New York Times, this was Brazil’s worst game since losing 6-0 to Uruguay in 1920.
The number of Germany fans on campus seems to surpass that of Brazil’s, and as satisfying as a victory was for them, some felt pity for the Brazilians, possibly making Tuesday’s lackluster game the worst World Cup showdown in history.
I was pretty shocked [Germany] scored that many goals that quick. I thought they were going to win 2-1 or 3-1. I was rooting for Germany, but I wanted to see a good game instead of Brazil getting demolished.

They have a lot of players who play on the club team together. They just look like a better team…more skilled and they’re more in the right place, rather than Brazil scattered on defense.
That’s a really high scoring soccer game, which doesn’t really happen, especially in the World Cup and especially for Brazil. Maybe it was because they lost Neymar or top defenders, but I don’t know what happened. I think there was a little loss of mentality with their star players not being there, but they should be able to compensate. They shouldn’t have lost like that having home court advantage.

I was very pleased with the score because I am a Germany fan. I’ve been rooting for them for a while, but I was surprised how badly they beat Brazil. I felt bad for them just because it was their home country. I wish the game was a little closer just for the sake of not being embarrassed.
I think after a while you just give up and damper the team’s spirit. If it starts out bad, it’s usually really hard to make a comeback. Honestly, I didn’t think Brazil was going to win from the beginning.

They’ve won it before; they can do it again. Soccer’s a big deal in Germany. They kind of breed soccer players from a very young age.
It was crazy, we couldn’t believe it. I think the Brazillians were tired and gave up. Losing Neymar and Thiago [Silva] was a big loss for Brazil. It’s like Argentina and Messi, they cant win without Messi.
I don’t know if Brazil would’ve have won even with the two players. Maybe they could’ve been more even…
